Congressman tours Rome school with a focus on STEM Education

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local Congressman toured a Rome school focused on STEM education Tuesday.

Representative Richard Hanna spent time with teachers and students discussing the benefits of their curriculum, which gives students hands-on experience in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

The idea is to garner students' interest in these industries at an early age, that way, in the future, they are competitive candidates for high paying jobs.

"They graduate here with specific knowledge and skills in these careers that are very viable careers and there is a booming job market out there for anyone who is interested or has the talents to follow into technology type careers," said Michael Powers, Principal at Rome Catholic School.

Hanna recently introduced the "STEM education Opportunity Act" in Congress to give more students access to educational opportunities in the STEM fields.
