Herkimer, Ilion and Mohawk residents to vote Wednesday on school merger

By WKTV News

Residents of the Herkimer, Ilion and Mohawk school districts will vote Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 on an advisory referendum to determine the community’s interest in whether the three districts should join together as a single district.

Residents must vote in their own school districts. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. By law, all voters must be U.S. citizens, age 18 or older and residents of the district for at least 30 days prior to the vote.

Advance registration is not required.

Polling sites are:

• Herkimer—Herkimer Junior/Senior High School Media Center, 801 West German St., Herkimer

• Ilion - To better accommodate the anticipated number of voters, the Ilion merger vote will be held in the Junior-Senior High School Small Gym as opposed to the Junior-Senior High School Cafeteria.

• Mohawk—Gregory B. Jarvis High School Lower Lobby, 28 Grove St, Mohawk

The advisory referendum is the first of two votes that would be required for the districts to merge.
