Ilion Schools face tentative $1.2 million budget gap

ILION, NY (WKTV)-- llion held a board of education meeting Monday night. Part of their discussion, centered around the budget for the 2012-2013 school year. As of Monday night's meeting Ilion is facing a $1.2M deficit.

Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra says, "Three of the reserves that we have are going to be depleted next year and that still only gets us to that 1.2 million."

That's because the gap between revenue and expenditures is $3.8 million, but by using the fund balance and reserves it brings the gap down to $1.2 million.

Tangorra went on to say, "No eliminations are in this budget so far. However, that doesn't mean that there won't be. It all depends on what the cash flow projections look like at the end of next week."

That's when the business office will be done adding and subtracting numbers and that's when more concrete numbers will be on the table. Turning the table, though the districts have extended their contract with S.E.S. who is continuing on with the merger study. There is now a timeline in place.

"The timeline is to have everything into SED by the end of April, beginning of May. Use May, June, July, August to have community forums and then September 12th, 2012 is scheduled for the advisory referendum." said Tangorra.

The community forums will be different this time around. The three superintendents from the districts in the study, Ilion, Mohawk and Herkimer, will head the community forums instead of the people from S.E.S. who are doing the study.
