POLAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - There is more trout in the West Canada Creek courtesy to some students from the Poland Central School District.
Third graders had been taking care of the trout in a tank in their classroom since October, but now that the fish are fully grown, the students released them back into the waters of the wild.
It was all part of a lesson in environmental conservation.
"I want to be able to teach to the kids that you have a responsibility to the earth, so therefore, you need to replace back and be a good adult and it starts when you're a young kid," said Third Grade Teacher Tracy Graulich.
During the release, the students also learned about the creek and why it is an appropriate environment for the trout.
