Roscoe Conkling School celebrates first academic year since re-opening

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was a busy last week of classes for one local elementary school as Roscoe Conkling School put its first school year in the books since its re-opening, marking the occasion with a celebration.

The building was an administration building for many years, and in September, the site once again opened its doors to students from pre-k through sixth grade. The process wasn't easy, as the entire building had to be revamped and renovated changing old offices to classrooms with cutting edge technology.

"They had to convert offices in to classrooms and they had to install smartboards into every classroom and basically make it a school with music and a library, art room, gym and auditorium and make it kid-friendly," said Sarah Colon, a third grade teacher at the school.

Colon has been with the district for ten years and says Conkling is by far, the best school she's worked at.
