Students learn about the power of law at 2012 Law Day

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - High school students around the area learned about the power of the legal system on Tuesday as students from Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties started their day bright and early with a tour of the Oneida County Courthouse in honor of "Law Day."

The students take a special look at one particular field of law each year, and the 2012 theme is "Civil Rights in the Courts - Past and Future." Speakers included judges, attorneys and an author.

"We hope the legal institutions and the law can be used for great good to protect their country," said Jim Griffith, Chairman of the Bar Association Law Day Committee. "From time to time, the law can be part of the problem, but it really can be part of the solution."

High school students from around Central New York got to learn more about the American legal system.
