Elementary students, faculty at West Canada Valley wear orange in stance against bullying

MIDDLEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Schools across the country are celebrating Unity Day and on Wednesday, more than 400 students at West Canada Valley Elementary School wore the color orange in a symbolic stance against bullying.

The goal of Unity Day is to unite people across the country and spread the message that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

School Psychologist Rita Juteau says that it is best to instill these values in children when they are young.

"We're teaching good character education, so being respectful, showing good manners, valuing each other and just being good friends to one another," Juteau said.

While Wednesday is Unity Day, all of October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
