Family announces 5k walk in son, brother's memory

By JOLEEN FERRIS

HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The family of a Holland Patent teen killed in a car crash this winter is making sure their son and brother continues to add joy and love to the lives of those who knew him.

Anusha Yagey, 16, was killed in a car crash on the way to Holland Patent School with his brother back in February. His brother, who was driving the car, survived the crash.

Anusha Yagey loved sports. On Wednesday, his family held an assembly at Holland Patent School to announce NUSHwalk; a 5k walk that will take place Purple and Gold Weekend in October, with proceeds to benefit Holland Patent Sports and the Anusha Yagey Scholarship Fund.

The family says the purpose of the walk is also to "keep the light shining of those who have journeyed on" by honoring Anusha's life and "all other children who left this world way too soon".

"It's going to be with a kid who's got heart, who loves a sport, not necessarily the smartest or the brightest or the fastest-a kid who has heart. Just like he did," says mom Sharon Yagey.

The 5k NUSHwalk will be in Holland Patent. The Yagey family is still in the process of mapping out the route. They're also looking for corporate sponsors for the walk.
