Local high school students get lessons in cybersecurity fields

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Dozens of high school students were on campus at Utica College on Wednesday to find out more about the many career possibilities related to cyber-security.

Close to 100 students from Rome Free Academy, Proctor, and other local high schools were hand chosen by their teachers to participate in the day, with the select few participating in demonstrations that hone their math and science skills.

On top of that, the students got to hear from professionals about how to use those skills.

"Folks from insurance, law enforcement and from defense come in and talk about how cybersecurity interacts with their specific field, then we break the students out to three areas - cryptography, steganogrpahy and then computer forensics, which deals with finding information," said Joe Giordano, Director of Cybersecurity for Utica College.

The students also participated in several panel discussions throughout the day.
