Remsen Schools look into merger options

By WKTV News

REMSEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Remsen Central schools could soon be merging. Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES District Superintendent Howard Mettelman met with Remsen's Board of Education Tuesday to discuss the process.

This was the first meeting on a possible merger. The informational session was meant to give an overview on reorganization options and allow board members and members of the community to ask questions.

"I think there are both pros and cons and I think one of the things tonight is to present once again initial information," said Mettelman. "There's been really no preconceived notions or preconceived conversations it really stemmed from the board looking at long range planning and wanting to make sure that the community was involved every step of the way."

About 100 people came to Tuesday's meeting. It is still undecided which schools Remsen would merge with if they decided to, the informational session looked into all options.
