Remsen students assemble care packages for the troops

By HILARY LANE

REMSEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Students at the Remsen Central School are doing their part to try and make the holidays a little happier for those serving our country.

Fourth, fifth and sixth graders have been assembling care packages to be sent overseas to four Remsen residents who are currently serving in the military.

"We really want to show them the true meaning of the holidays and also really give back," said Jen McEvoy, teacher at Remsen Central School and organizer of the care packages project. "It's not just about receiving, it's about giving, and appreciating what these men and women do for us every single day."

The students have been collecting items over the past month and a half from community members, teachers, and other students at the school.

The packages will be shipped out on Wednesday, right in time for the holiday season.
