Students get hands-on lesson in fly-fishing

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Students in Herkimer got a lesson in fly-fishing on Thursday, learning the ins and outs of fly tying, casting, and even a science lesson in the ecology of streams.

It all took place at the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES complex on Gros Boulevard in Herkimer and Thursday's lessons were for students from kindergarten through third grade.

"They're just so willing to learn and so excited about fishing as a recreation, but also the science behind it and it just keeps kids fresh for and excited about the fall," said Camp Counselor Meg Gardner.

On Friday, a second session is scheduled for students grades four through six.
