(WKTV) - This is the tentative timeline of events in the process to merge four Herkimer County School Districts. Each event happens only if the vote before it passes.

January 10, 2012
Boards of Education in Herkimer, Frankfort-Schuyler, Ilion and Mohawk vote whether to let the public vote on the school merger in an advisory referendum/non-binding straw vote.

January 19, 2012
Communites hold an advisory referendum/non-binding straw vote to determine interest in proposed merger.

February 29, 2012
Communities hold binding, final vote on merging school districts.

Early March
New single Board of Education openings are open to petition.

Early April
Elections held for new single Board of Education.

May 15, 2012
Budget vote takes place for new single school district.

July 1, 2012
New district begins operations.
