Trip to the past, a treasure for the future by students at Frankfort-Schuyler

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - Students at Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School got the rare opportunity to travel through time on Friday morning.

They took a look back at what it was like to go to school in 1962, but also secured a time capsule that will allow students in 2062 to look back on the modern day.

It was all part of a unity assembly to promote school spirit in a consolidated school. In September, West Frankfort Elementary School closed and the students moved to Reese Road Elementary School. That school is now called Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary, but on Friday, history from both schools was celebrated.

"I thought it would be a really great idea to have a re-dedication of the school," said Principal Frank Saraceno. "We took out the cornerstones of both elementary schools and we had the students look at them and now all the students in the school have written compositions and now we're putting them in the time capsule and sealing it up today."

Students sang songs including the school alma mater during an assembly to celebrate the Cornerstone event.
