1,000 ninth graders explore different career paths

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Roughly 1,000 ninth graders from ten different Herkimer County Schools learned about different career fields from the professionals themselves at Herkimer County Community College on Tuesday.

The career fair brought together 35 different representatives from a diverse group of backgrounds to give students an up-close and personal look into their professional lives.

Raymond Durso, the event organizer, said he wanted to give students a chance to pick the brains of professionals and learn more about what lies ahead for them in life.

"Students need to know how important it is to make a plan, stick to it, and be confident knowing that you don't just have to chose one career," said Durso. "In today's day, it is okay to have several career choices."

Many different career fields were represented including education, fine arts, communications, marketing, and nanotechnology.
