UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was a sea of caps and gowns on Sunday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium as Utica College's 63rd Commencement Ceremony got underway before a large crowd.

This year's keynote speaker was Malaak Compton-Rock, an accomplished activist and philanthropist. She has worked with the United Nations Children's Fund and is married to comedian and actor Chris Rock.

"I live by the motto, service is the rent we pay for living," Compton-Rock said to the graduates. "I just believe in to whom much has been given, much is required. I've been very blessed in my life, but quite honestly, my life is even more rich, more fulfilling because of the people I have met on my journey serving others."

569 undergraduates received their degrees on Sunday, as did 487 graduate students. The graduate degree ceremony was held at the Stanley Theatre this year, due to the large size of both graduating classes.
