Clothesline Project hanging at Herkimer County Community College

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The clothesline is now up at Herkimer County Community College, the Clothesline Project, that is.

It's a project that gives sexual violence victims a voice. All of the tee shirts have words expressing how victims feel.

Organizers from the YWCA say the tees, which are created locally, are both an outlet for victims and an invite for students to learn more about this serious issue.

"We provide a lot of services for the family, for the victim themselves, and then family members. They help them figure that out," said Joanne Gueverra, YWCA Community Educator.

The Clothesline Project started back in the 80's and was inspired by the AIDS quilt. It has since grown to more than 500 local clothesline projects across the country.
