Fire at SUNY Canton campus; no injuries reported

By Assocaited Press

CANTON, N.Y. (AP) - Officials are trying to determine the cause
of a fire at a state college building in northern New York campus, forcing part of the campus to be evacuated.

The fire broke out at a science center shortly before noon Friday at the State University of New York at Canton, in St. Lawrence County 120 miles northeast of Syracuse.

No injuries were reported, but officials say adjacent buildings were evacuated because of concerns about the billowing smoke.

Firefighters were close to controlling the blaze within two hours.
