UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mohawk Valley Community College has received a $100,000 grant to help more students afford college.
On Wednesday, the study and gathering space on the second floor of the Information and Technology Building at MVCC in Utica was renamed the "Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties Atrium" in honor of the organization's donation.
The Community Foundation's gift will be used to give students in the top 10 percent of their high school class a full scholarship to the college.
"We thought this was a great chance to help them increase their pool of students and allow students to go to college when they may not have the opportunity to otherwise," said Jan Squadrito of the Community Foundation.
Around 45 students are awarded full-rides to Mohawk Valley Community College based on their high school academics each year.
