SUNY Oneonta works to help displaced students

ONEONTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - SUNY Oneonta officials are providing shelter for the 177 students who were displaced from a fire that took place on the third floor of Matteson Hall Wednesday afternoon.

The students will be staying in the Chase Gymnasium and the college said they are providing food, clothing, toiletries and computers for them.

The fire happened at around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and it was contained by 5 p.m.

Officials say the fire happened in a third-floor suite in the north end of the building. The third floor sustained heavy smoke damage.

No injuries were reported and classes will take place Thursday. No word on the cause.
