SUNYIT Freshmen get orientation with ropes course

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Freshmen at SUNYIT in Utica underwent orientation on Friday with a series of 16 different rope stations set up in the woods on one end of the campus.

Each station is designed to promote teamwork and school officials who have been putting this program together for the past 15 years say it really does get the 'newbies' off to a good start.

"They're going to be spending the next four years of their lives with some of these faculty and staff, helping to facilitate this activity, also some of our returning students, students leaders on the campus, who they're meeting," said David Garrett, SUNYIT Director of International Studies. "A lot of people who are going to be important in their future. They're bonding in a way that is not typical on a college campus."

Classes at SUNYIT begin on Monday.
