Broadway Theatre League 2011-2012 season officially announced

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The new Broadway Theatre League schedule is out and it is a season that really takes full advantage of the Stanley World Stage.

Two "tech shows" are on the 2011-2012 lineup, including "Young Frankenstein" and "The Blue Man Group."

A tech show is a chance for a Broadway show to change costumes and lighting and really update the act. Up to 50 local stagehands will be hired to help freshen up the shows before the actors go back on tour.

"The purpose is to set up the entire show for technical issues, for rehearsals, for set design," said John Fehlner, the new Executive Director of the Broadway Theatre League. "They actually do all of their advertising. They are here for that entire period of time and the last few days of the tech show, they'll give the live performance which is part of our season."

Fehlner says having two tech shows will be a significant boost to the local economy, as he says the whole crew will be eating at local restaurants and staying in Utica hotels for at least eight days.

In addition to "Young Frankenstein" (September 27 and 28) and the "Blue Man Group" (May 25 and 26), other shows include:

"In the Heights" - October 25 and 26

"Peter Pan" - November 15, 16 and 17 (Act II show, not a part of the regular subscription season)

"Shrek The Musical" - February 7, 8 and 9

"Mamma Mia!" - January 17 and 18 (Act II show, not a part of the regular subscription season)

"South Pacific" - March 6 and 7

Subscriptions are currently on sale and begin at $136 per person for all five shows. Tickets for any Act II shows will sold separately. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 315-724-7196 or visit
