REMSEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - With only a few weeks away until the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi begin, the Remsen community has begun rallying support behind local Olympian, Erin Hamlin. Hamlin's parents, friends and family all gathered Wednesday night at The Soda Fountain in Remsen to put their plans into action and to start distributing "Go Erin" materials.
The community members hope to make Hamlin feel supported from her hometown while she is competing in Sochi, Russia.
Erin's mother said she is beyond proud of her daughter, " It still seems surreal because you have an Olympic daughter who was a one, two and now is a third time Olympian and it has been a lot of years of hard work on her part and we're proud of her because she put that dedication and time in all these years."
The group is putting up signs and banners all around Remsen. They also have Erin Hamlin buttons that cost $1 a piece. The 18' by 24' "Go Erin" signs are $10 a piece.
The bigger signs were donated by the VFW and Remsen Development Corporation.
