By HILARY LANE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mohawk Valley Heart Institute is celebrating 15 years of providing cardiac services to local patients.

The collaboration between St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare has helped save the lives of thousands of people in the area.

A special ceremony is being held to recognize all of the Mohawk Valley Health Institute staff members for the service the program has provided to the community.

"People were able to get a diagnostic cardiac cap, but they weren't able to get angioplasties," said Dr. Albert M'Accurzio of the Heart Institute. "By creating the Mohawk Valley Heart Institute, we are able to offer both of to local residents without them having to go to Syracuse, Albany."

The Mohawk Valley Heart Institute has performed close to 200,000 procedures over the last 15 years.
