NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Sangertown Square mall in New Hartford is smoke-free inside and out as of Thursday.

Pyramid Management Company, LLC, which owns and operates Sangertown Square, announced has announced that all of their properties, inside and out, would become 100% tobacco free as of May 31.

The tobacco-free policy includes any and all tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco) and any other similar substances or instruments that are lit or burning such as electronic cigarettes. Pyramid Management stated that the policy is inclusive of their entire properties, both inside and outside, including all entry points, hallways, sidewalks, loading dock areas, parking lots and construction areas.

The policy also applied to all mall associates, tenant employees, vendors, delivery people, contractors, subcontractors and guests.

"We believe it's the right thing to do because, second hand smoke, you wont have to deal with it as a guest walking into the mall," said Allison Cahalan, Marketing Director for Sangertown Square. "It's a cleaner atmosphere, it's a cleaner and healthier shopping experience."

Pyramid Management also owns and operates Carousel Center in Syracuse, Walden Galleria near Buffalo and Crossgates Mall in Albany, which are all, also, going smoke free.
