UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Nurses Week continues and on Thursday, the St. Elizabeth Medical Center named it's Nurses of Distinction.

Four nurses were awarded, along with a Nurse Technician and a Ward Clerk.

The recipients are chosen through patient and family feedback and a consulting group.

They are considered by the medical center to give compassionate care to their patients day in and day out and the distinction is a way of recognizing the care they give.

"It is valuable for our nurses to provide compassionate care to fulfill the mission of the medical center, see our patients in a regard as not just a patient in a bed, but as a human being," said Varinya Sheppard, VP and Chief Nursing Officer.

These employees were recognized with the Nurse of Distinction Awards from St. Elizabeth Medical Center's Case Management, the Sister Rose Vincent Family Medicine Center and the College of Nursing.
