State makes way for aerial spraying of mosquitoes on Oswego County

(WKTV) - The state's health commissioner has issued a Declaration of Imminent Threat to Public Health in Oswego County, clearing the way for the county to conduct aerial spraying for mosquitoes.

The action follows the death of a young girl by the Mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus in the county. The death toll also includes two horses and a dog.

Oswego County health officials say the primary focus for the spraying will be the areas where the virus has been most intense.

Spraying will not take place over open water or agricultural sites like bee farms and organic farms.
