Ilion budget hearing takes place Wednesday

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Ilion Village Board held a public hearing on its $6.2 million dollar budget Wednesday night.

The board previously voted to override the state's 2 percent tax cap. The tax rate increase under the proposed budget is 3.2 percent.

Village Mayor John Stephens says the board had a lot of items to consider when going over the budget.

"We're still dealing with the increases in our worker's comp, our retirement and health care," Stephens said. "All these unfunded mandates that the state is putting down, we just can't get a break with them."

Stephens says the tax rate increase amounts to about $44 for the average Ilion household.
