Sheriff Deputy and suspect shot in standoff

By ANDREW DONOVAN

KNOXBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - Oneida County Sheriffs confirm to NEWSChannel 2 that one deputy was shot in a standoff in the Hamlet of Knoxboro in Southern Oneida County.

Police were responding to a domestic incident at a home on Knoxboro Road when a man took himself hostage in his garage. That man, being identified as 41-year-old Chris Patterson, reportedly shot the deputy.

According to Lt. James McCarthy of the Sheriff's Department, both the deputy and Patterson are in surgery in the St. Elizabeth Medical Center emergency room.

McCarthy could not specify where the officer was shot and could not elaborate on the extent of either of their injuries.

The deputy's identification is not being released as family members are still being notified.

The domestic incident at the home originally involved Patterson's wife and child, but they were released early on without harm.

Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies said they have a press conference scheduled for later Tuesday morning.
