2012 Shop Rome First Campaign most successful one yet

By WKTV News

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - In just one year, revenue from the Shop Rome First campaign has increased 8 percent.

Approximately 10 years ago, a study was conducted in Rome which found 75 percent of all residents do their holiday shopping outside of the city.

That is why the Rome Chamber of Commerce launched their campaign to drum up business for local mom and pop shops.

There were all different types of promotions and advertisements to get residents excited during the Holiday Season and this year was the most successful yet.

In just December of 2012, city revenue equaled $588,040 compared to $543,866 in December of 2011.

"It helps to protect jobs in Rome, and helps to protect and grow the Rome businesses and helps to keep property taxes lower in the area," said Mike Manuele, Chairman of the Board at Rome Chamber of Commerce.

Over 53 local businesses participated in this year's Shop Rome First campaign.
