$1,000 donated to Humane Society of Rome via WKTV "Save These Faces" campaign

By WKTV News

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - We are making the rounds, delivering $1,000 checks to four local humane societies. It's part of our "Save These Faces" Facebook campaign, where we need 20,000 likes in July to donate the money.

On Wednesday, we stopped by the Humane Society of Rome to give them their check.

Susan Grande, executive director of the shelter, accepted the check on behalf of the shelter. She says the money will go toward their "Raise the Woof" campaign to raise money for a new shelter.

Grande says a new shelter is needed more than ever. Since the decision came to close the Oneida Correctional facility, Grande says employees and their families have been forced to move and quickly. She says they have seen about a 20% increase in the amount of animals at the shelter since the announcement of the prison closure.

WKTV-NEWSChannel 2 is also donating money to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Utica, the Herkimer County Humane Society and the Susquehanna SPCA in Cooperstown.
