$1,000 donated to Stevens-Swan Humane Society from WKTV Facebook campaign

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Utica is putting the gift of $1,000 to good use.

On Tuesday, August 23, WKTV NEWSChannel 2 presented the humane society with a big check that was really from our viewers.

Our viewers and web users clicked "like" on our Facebook page and helped us reach more than 20,000 Facebook Friends. As a result, WKTV's end of the bargain was a donation of $1,000 to four different area Humane Societies as part of the "Save these Faces" campaign.

Stevens Swan Humane Society was the first to receive their donation. Shelter Spokesperson Jerry Kraus said they'll use the money for food, blankets, and other items needed on a daily basis.

"We receive no government funding from the federal government or county government," Kraus said. "So what we do ask is that a lot people open up their hearts and their wallets to help us with donations. So when we get a big...a $1,000 donation like this will go a long way to help us here."

The Humane Society's signature event, The Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-Thon is coming up shortly. It will be held next month on September 18 at the New Hartford Town Park.
