Increased Police Force Shows Improvement Near Proctor High School

Two weeks ago, Utica Police hit the streets surrounding Proctor High School to maintain peace between neighbors and students. Now the Public Safety Commissioner Phil Taurisano says so far it is a success. Each day, several officers patrol the surrounding area and they are discouraging things like littering, loitering, fighting and speeding.

It began when the number of complaints about students' behavior increased. Many of the people who live in this area say it was getting out of control but now that is slowly changing. According to Taurisano, 24 traffic tickets were issued in the first five days and they included speeding, talking on a cell phone and not wearing a seat-belt.

Officers also managed to break up three fights during that time period.
