Waterville woman in critical condition after accident Saturday on Route 233


ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Waterville woman is in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after she lost control of her vehicle and hit another car head-on on Route 233 Saturday night, according to new information State Police released Monday morning.

According to Trooper Jim Simpson of the New York State Police, 21-year-old Kate Rizzo, of Stafford Avenue in Waterville, was traveling south on Route 233 when she failed to keep right and crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic.

Authorities say Rizzo and her passenger, 23-year-old Travis Maurine, of Utica, were sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Rizzo suffered severe head trauma, and is listed in critical but stable condition. Maurine was treated for lacerations to his arm.

Rizzo's car hit another vehicle head on, driven by Rachael Inman of Utica. Inman was sent to St. Luke's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

No tickets have been issued at this time but the investigation is continuing.
