Investigation into Deputy Wyman's death "nearing an end"
ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The day that fallen Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Wyman was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, his former supervisors say the investigation into his death and the Sheriff's Department's own internal probe into the events of that night are nearing their end.
It was two months ago that Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol announced that two-pronged investigation into the line of duty shooting death of Deputy Wyman.
On Wednesday, the department stated says that changes in policy will likely result.
"Does it appear that everything was done correctly? Absolutely, but still, we lost a member of this agency and that's not an acceptable thing to happen," said Undersheriff Robert Swenszkowski. "So we need to see what we can further do to prevent - whether it's policy or practices, to avoid that in the future. Absolutely, I would expect changes."
Deputy Wyman's accused killer, Christian Patterson, is due in court September 20 to let the judge know if he wants to plead guilty or go to trial.
