The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced today that Rich "Goose" Gossage will headline the Class of 2008. He will join five managers and executives elected last month under revamped rules that created separate Veterans Committee ballots.

Gossage, known for his intimidating look, was one of the game's best closers. He pitched for nine different teams in his 22-year career. He is 17th on the all time saves list at 310.  Goose is most known for his stint with the New York Yankees from 1978-1983. However, his best season came a year later when he helped lead the San Diego Padres to a National League pennant and trip to the World Series. Gossage finished 124-107 with 1,502 strikeouts and a 3.01 ERA.
