Zogby poll has McCain leading Giuliani in New York State

Nicole Estaphan

Super Tuesday is just around the corner, and with just a few states having handed out their delegates, many are wondering who will and will not be in the race after the big voting day.

For the State of New York, three separate polls released this week - the Zogby, the Siena and Marist polls all point to an interesting race on the republican side and a not-so surprising results for democrats.

Arizona Senator John McCain is leading former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani right here in his home state.

However, the lead is slim. The Zogby poll has McCain at 24% while Giuliani has 21% of those polled.

Surprising for some, but John McCain held his own in the state in 2000 -receiving about 45% of the vote, despite the strong republican backing of now President George Bush.

On the democratic side of things, Senator Hillary Clinton holds a lead of 47% to 25% of the votes over Barack Obama. But John Zogby cautions that the latest polling is really just a snapshot of where voters stand today, and with lots of campaigning still ahead anything is possible.

"There is an eternity between now and February 5th," said John Zogby, head of John Zogby International. "This is a sequential process, and at the same time fortunes can go up and some can go down someone could make serious mistake."

And of course while some candidates may win a state, others may receive more of those all important delegates.
