Team USA heads to Switzerland for another shot at Wheelchair Curling medal

Jason Powles

A week from now, Team USA will arrive in Switzerland for the World Wheelchair Curling Championships. In the years that they've competed, they've always come up short of the medal round.

Well this year, their experience just might get them over the hump.

Team USA - Jimmy Joseph, Bob Prenoveau, Jim Pierce, Jacqui Kapinowski, and Augusto Perez are ready for another shot at a medal. They will be one of ten teams vying for the right to be called world champions.

Jacqui Kapinowski is new to Team USA. She met Jimmy Joseph at last year's Boilermaker. He told her about the sport, she tried it, and now she's hooked and an integral part of the team.

Mark DePerno has been part of the process from day one. He'll be heading to Switzerland with the team and feels they have just what it takes to get to the next level.

If you are interested in following their progress, there will be animated shot by shot coverage of the event at www.sitrin.com next week to follow along.

That was an excellent news report. Whether or not Team USA makes it to the podium, they can certainly teach us Canadians a lot about the value of media access and publicity in promotiong a new sport.
