Man charged with sexual abuse of child

Megan Koskovich

UTICA - Today, David Mast of Utica was in Utica City Court for charges of sexually abusing a six year old boy. He waives his right to a felony hearing and the case will now go before an Oneida County Grand Jury. His daughter, Patricia Seigler, says he abused her and her sister when she was just a little girl.

It certainly took a lot of bravery for Seigler to come out in public to tell this very painful story of sex abuse. A story of abuse by a man who, as a child, should have been a person she could trust.

According to Seigler, the abuse started when she was about five or six years-old. She says he would molest her late at night while her mother slept, or when they went on trips.

Seigler says she told her mother about what was happening - but claims her mother never did anything to stop it. It's her younger sister, who Seigler says was also abused by Mast, who told a school principal in 1990 what was happening.

Court documents say Mast was arrested, charged and convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in the case of her sister. He was also charged with two misdemeanors.

Even though Mast was never formally charged with sexually abusing Seigler, she still thinks its important for her to share her story...as a healing process for her, and being a support system for Mast's latest alleged victim.

"If I could say something to that little boy, I would tell him I know what you're going through. Just keep going to counseling, get it all out in the open. Don't keep it bottled up inside because it will destroy you," she said.

Again, Mast will be in Utica City Court Monday afternoon on charges of a completely separate incident. He's being charged with first degree sexual abuse for allegedly molesting a six-year-old boy, which is classified as a felony.

My sister was sexually abused by my father back in the 60's, not to mention regular beatings she took for trying to fight back. When she finally confided in me, I told our mother and thank God she believed me. Things changed but it was all kept hush-hush and he was never punished. She still suffers today. I really feel for these two sisters and for the little boy. He needs to be incar-cerated and receive intensive treatment with lifetime continuing treatment/probation to protect other kids.

For People Who Don't Believe Sex Offenders Cannot Be Treated. I did 3 to 9 Years for Sexual Abuse, I did over 6 Years, Was Released On Parole, Completed My Parole, Completed Therapy, and now I am working every day, trying to piece my life back together. I have been out 11 Years... Again to Those Who Say Sex Offenders Cannot Be Treated, you may be right, but They Can Change for the Better, I am Living Proof, and not ashamed of it.

You cannot collectively put all sex offenders into a single category, such as you would not say all drug users and all DWI'ers cannot be helped, because if someone or some agency, instead of inflicting fear into society and actually did something, then the world might be a better place. Until then, we must live in a society of politicians installing fear into everyone saying that every sex offender needs to be treated the same, will only breed more fear. It's Time to Help The Sick, not condemn.

This makes me sick that a pig of a man will just keep hurting innocent little girls &boys until he is put away for life.He does not deserve another chance of freedom for what he did to those kids. They lost something that they shouldnt have @ 5&6 yrs.old I dont understand why those kind of people are allowed out of jail.I feel they should be behind bars for the rest of their sorry lives

I don't fell that you can help sex offenders and I strongly believe that they should not be release back into the general public, the monitoring system can not keep track of everything they do, unless you want to attach A camera attached to them or better yet keep them locked up.

They Need to lock him up for a long time. And they need to let the Mother know that it's not allright to hide these rotten events from the law. The poor kids have to pay for what she hid all those years

Being a convicted sex offender Mr. Mast should have benn monitored by someone to ensure he don't commit the same act. Apparently, for some sex offenders like Mr. Mast, monitoring was not ordered. I wonder how many other victims of Mr. Mast is out there. Who else did he bullied to keep quite?
