UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - While high school graduations abound this time of year, a different kind of graduation was held Friday morning as 15 Utica Fire Academy graduates were rewarded for their weeks of grueling training.
The ceremony was held at IT Theater building at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica.
Some already have positions as volunteer firefighters and others are looking to enter the workforce.
"He's not guaranteed a spot, but he's actually certified college for anywhere in state or country, as a matter of fact," said Anthony Facciolo, father of one of the fire graduates.
While there is no guarantee of a job with the fire department, all those graduating but they all received the skills and training under their belt to fight fires.
