Trend for workplace violence on increase

UTICA - Several area businesses are better informed about work place violence this afternoon, after the Central New York Labor Agency held a seminar at the Holiday Inn on Burrstone Road.

Several speakers, including New York State troopers and the Labor Agency were guest speakers.

The project coordinator, Garry Colarusso, says a seminar like this is useful because of a growing trend.

"The trend for workplace violence has increased over the years because of financial commitments we've had in this area," Colarusso said. "Pressures to perform on the job, social statements that come with either personalities, religion or race all of those tend to lead to some type of friction in the work place."

We all need to step back and look at the big picture. We are our own worst enemies. Life is much more stressful now than it was 20 years ago. We have deadlines to meet, kids to transport around, both mom and dad are working. We all need to find a way to relax and enjoy our lives. I feel that the stress we have each and every day is what leads us to violence. Not just in the workplace but home and out in society. We need to relax more. If it doesn't get done today it can be done tomorrow.
