Darnell Howard Trial: Officer arrested teen who spit at him

By By EVAN WHITE

UTICA - The trial of the teen accused of beating up a Utica Police Officer entered day three Wednesday.

Utica Officer Dzenan Sabanovic took the stand, testifying that he was responding to a criminal mischief complaint involving Hector McClain before the fight broke out.

Sabanovic said McClain later ignored his questions, and his friend, the defendant, Darnell Howard, came across the street to try to get McClain to leave.

Shortly after being asked to leave, Sabonovic says Howard spit in his face. That is when the officer tried to place him under arrest and was attacked by Howard, Howard's brother - Terrell, and Hector McClain.

Jurors will hear more testimony from Sabanovic and will hear from two more witnesses before closing arguments begin.
