One dead in fatal car accident in Town of Litchfield
LITCHFIELD - The New York State Police at SP Herkimer are investigating a two car fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 6 at the intersection of Roberts Road and Graffenburg Road in the Town of Litchfield. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Subaru operated by A 1998 Pontiac operated by Renee Rounsville, 19, of Sauquoit, was northbound on Graffenburg Road. Rounsville failed to stop at the stop sign / flashing red signal and entered Roberts Road, striking the vehicle operated by Jweid. The Pontiac came to rest on the north shoulder of Roberts Road approximately fifty feet west of the intersection. The force of the impact caused the Subaru to rotate 180 degrees before striking the snow embankment along the north shoulder of Roberts Road. The rear seat passenger in the Subaru, Kara Jweid was ejected from the vehicle through the left rear window. She was transported by Remaining occupants of both vehicles were transported by area ambulance services for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Kayla Jweid was sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and is currently in fair condition. Renee Rounsville was sent to St. Luke's Hospital and her exact condition was unavailable. The State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Cedarville Fire Department, and the Edwards and Kunkel Ambulance Services.
