Two Boilermaker Statues Stolen

WKTV News

According to Utica police two statues, meant to show diversity in the city of Utica, have been stolen from the Utica College campus.

The statues are a pair of runners, one male and one female, with the word "runner" written in over 50 languages on them. The designer of the male statue, Daniel Buckingham, says it took him 3 weeks to make and cost over $7,000.

The statues were showcased for the first time at last years Boilermaker, and have been moved around to different city locations since.

According to Buckingham, the statues range between 5'8" to 5'11" tall, and weigh about 65 pounds. However Buckingham says if the base was taken with them, the total weight could be as much as 350 pounds.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of either of these two statues you can call Utica police or campus safety at Utica College.

This is appalling!!! These statues represent the heart and soul of the Utica community and what makes Utica most famous around the country. Saratoga has the horse statues, Bennington Vermont has the Moose statues and Utica was building a nice representation with the runners. I am shocked that someone or someones would have that much disrespect for the area. I can't believe Utica College did not have a camera on these runners. I hope the parties involved are caught and prosecuted to the fullest!
