International bank chooses Newark over Utica for new office
UTICA - An international business that once considered Utica as one of its choices for a new office, has decided to go elsewhere. Mayor David Roefaro's office has confirmed that the Standard Chartered Bank has chosen Newark, New Jersey as their final destination. Standard Chartered officials explained that the decided factor focused on their concern that a move to Utica would result in a nearly 100% attrition rate of Standard Chartered employees, while a move to Newark would result in only a 5% to 10% attrition rate. We came in 2nd place out of 14(?) cities and if that does not open your eyes you're quite the worthless pessimist.... Yes attition will be almost 100% however, relocating would have been beneficial as creating new jobs would and hiring the approx 300 employees would balance tha out. Also, cost of living is that as high as in Jersey (i know i lived there) therefore rate of pay wouldnt be as much, so in essance the bank would be saving money. Its just sad. very sad. Ok Rofero what else is on the table Flag for moderationThursday, Mar 27 at 6:44 PM sad wrote ...this is sad! Nothing good ever comes here. Flag for moderationAdd a comment |

Most of the reasons business doesn't come here is beyond our control: NY taxes. Travel in and out (no local airport, thruway tolls) is not good. The weather isn't nice 9 months of the year. However, there is ample affordable housing and the schools are good. The suburbs are safe and clean and no traffic problems. It beats Albany. As an IT professional I can't even touch a decent house here.
