Keeping The Future Of Farming In New York State Alive

By WKTV News

We all have our own, sometimes humorous, idea of what agriculture education is. In reality, it's not just about producing a good batch of milk. Today's agri-students are learning public speaking and marketing skills to use beyond the farm.

Agricultural education is becoming less about how to work on a farm and more about learning life skills. Teachers are changing their curriculums and students are branching out to more agriculture-related fields, all while staying close to the farm.

As oil prices surge, consumers are turning to farmers to produce some of their energy in forms such as ethanol.

While its still important to muck the barn and feed the livestock, the future of agriculture for the younger generation reaches beyond the boundaries of the family farm.
