CLINTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man from the Village of Clinton appeared on the game show "Jeopardy!" on Friday night. Mike Lonesky got the final question wrong, but only risked $999, making him the champion, who will return on Monday's episode.
Lonesky could not give away details of being on the show, he said that it was quite the lengthy process to be selected in the first process.
Lonesky said he had to pass an online test that the show offers several times a year.
"No multiple choice, you just type in the answers," Lonesky said. "You do that and then there are tens of thousands of people."
Once he passed that he had to travel to a major city to take a written test.
"I went down to New York City to take the written tests and they show the questions on a board. You write them down and then after that you do a game."
Once he passed the written test, he was entered into a contestant pool for 18 months and was told that he may or may not be selected, until one day he suddenly got the call. The show itself was tape in July one of five shows that are taped a day of "Jeopardy!"
"You don't know what day you're going to go on," he said. "I went on the last taping of the first day."
He says the actual taping of the show went by very quickly.
"I don't remember much of it," he said. "It went by so fast. When you think about it, the actual show part is only 20 minutes. It's something I wanted to do my entire life. a lot of it flies right by."
