Smoking accident causes house fire in Westmoreland

WESTMORELAND - Three people are without a home after fire ripped through their mobile home over the weekend.

Fire officials say it's not a complete loss, but it is badly damaged. The fire gutted the mid-section of the structure at 5244 Tudman Road, breaking out around 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Fire officials say it started on the porch. Published reports point to a person smoking as the accidental cause of the porch catching fire.

Firefighters made quick work of the blaze, and were able to salvage part of the home and some of the family's belongings.

No one was injured.

Great job to both the Westmoreland Fire Department and any other department that responded as well as the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
