First 100 days in office for Utica Mayor David Roefaro

By ANDREA BULLARD

UTICA - It's been 100 days since David Roefaro was sworn in as Utica's 75th mayor. Wednesday he highlighted some of the changes and steps forward his team has taken, along with giving hope of what is to come in Utica's future.

Since David Roefaro has held the title of mayor, the city has seen several changes right away. For example - two officers in police cars in high crime areas, cameras installed on busy streets, and giving Utica police more tools to assist in their jobs.

Keeping crime low and increasing safety is a major issue for this administration. That's why they have pushed to get police state-of-the-art tasers and ways to report crime easier - all of this done with out costing tax payers any extra money.

While public safety seems to be the number one priority for Roefaro, economic development and area youth, along with colleges are also high on his list.

By the end of this month, for example, MVCC, SUNYIT, Hamilton College, Colgate University, and Utica College will all get together to talk about ways to keep the youth in the area after graduating.

Roefaro ran under the slogan "We're in this Together" and 100 days in, he is still looking at revitalizing the city with that attitude.

"I will not let any of you down," Roefaro said. "This city is my home, it is my heart, and it is my hope. I look forward to the coming months and the people my administration can help dream, believe, and pursue whatever they desire in Utica. And remember - we're still in this together."

Now the city can look forward to new developments in the coming years. For example - a Dunkin Donuts on the east side, a parking garage downtown, a facade improvement project for Oneida Square, and updating the cities comprehensive master plan.

The city also unveiled it's new city logos, designed by graphic design students of MVCC.

All I know is when I would e-mail the previous Mayor he would answer me. Mayor Roefaro did not reply and the complaint of pot holes & turn signal light have not been taken care of. And another minimum wage store is East Utica is not going to help us.

A leader is best when people barely know he exists, not so good when people obey and acclaim him, worse when they despise him. But of a good leader who talks little when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: We did it ourselves.
