Oneida County Executive proclaims Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., announced Tuesday that he has proclaimed the week of April 13th – April 19th as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Oneida County. “The men and women who take the phone calls and dispatch police, fire and emergency services units occupy one of the most critical roles in the community security system in Oneida County,” Picente said. “Every day, the residents of every community in our county depend upon the professionalism, compassion, expertise, and dedication of the men and women who are our call takers and dispatchers.” “To citizens facing an emergency, there is nothing as important as dealing with a calm, understanding and reassuring voice on the other end of the telephone during an emergency,” Picente said. “Getting the right information to dispatch the right units is a vital function, and these men and women perform with distinction day and night, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.” Thursday, Apr 17 at 12:13 AM How insulting wrote ...How 2 faced can you be? Such vital people deserve a 1% raise? thanks for the offer though Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 6:53 PM Politics As Usual....BUT.... wrote ...Dont USE the 911 employees as your press release of the week when you and the Board Of Legislators despise the air they breathe..! How insulting. Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 4:49 PM Hey wow!! wrote ...It's not a bunch of disgruntled people. It's a bunch of people that are sick of being told how useless and replaceable they are at a bargaining table. Then when a PR opportunity arises, they're used as a tool and everyone's told how important and great they are. It's hypocritical and aggitating. A few weeks back, Picente had nothing but great things to say about law enforcement people in the OD, but it's not the way he sees them when it comes to paying them. Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 2:06 PM why is it? wrote ...why is it that a 911 dispatcher who helps save a life, and a deputy who protects a life can not be paid properly? while someone sitting in the county office bldg has a nice m-f, holiday's off job while all they do is punch numbers into a computer make $56,000 a year? and then have the nerve to say i need a cost of living raise? remember oneida co, you voted for mr piecente, who has shown public safty is NOT a priority in oneida co, yet a "true" secretary make 56,000 a year.where is the priority? Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 12:49 PM G wrote ...PASS THE CONTRACT !! WHATS WRONG WITH YOU>>THEY DESERVE WHAT THEY DESERVE!! MY GOD!! Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 12:08 PM You know whats sad??? wrote ...Whats sad is that no one wants to work there and gets no support from management, just things taken away. The people that work there now are desperately trying to go to other jobs and not lose their NYS retirement benefits. No one takes the 911 test because the pay is pathetic, and if they do start they very shortly say goodbye to that overwhelmingly stressful job. Sad also that the population is aging and the workload is ballooning and no one cares, or has any foresight to give a S___! Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 10:23 AM wow wrote ...What a disgruntled bunch of people answering the public's call for help! Sad Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 7:16 AM a "vital" 911 dispatcher wrote ...mr picente, i am one the your vital 911 dispatchers. you say you appreacate us. well sir, i invite you to come up and sit with us during an 8hr shift and see how vital we are when a mother calls screaming her newborn is not breathing and we calmly give cpr instructions to her, or listen to a officer who is in need of back-up and screaming for help.or maybe you can listen in on the suicdal caller who has a gun to his head while we talk him into not doing it. and we do it all without a contract. Flag for moderationWednesday, Apr 16 at 7:04 AM are you kidding me? wrote ...mr picente got did get somethig right!! the 911 dispatchers are a vital group of people in the county. they are the first contact with any emergency. so if the dispatchers are so "vital" then mr picente should settle the ocpba contract and give the "vital" dispatchers the pay they deserve and the deputies also. Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 9:49 PM Dispatcher wrote ...The problem referenced by the former telecommunicator is due to grossly poor management. They need to clearly document the slackers and the "earn a day, burn a day" people and get rid of them. This management documents nothing and looses every time and then blames the union. Attorneys represent the guilty in every case, it all comes down to the proof. Document, document, document the bad employees and get rid of them. How hard is that? Management is CLEARLY at fault here! Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 9:38 PM 911 wrote ...I guess the Former Telecommunicator left the "fair wage" behind for a lower wage, right. Of course they moved on for better pay! Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 5:12 PM Former telecommunicator wrote ...Although the work is at times very stressful and the schedule is difficult (nights, weekends, holidays) the pay is fair. Many do not earn what they get! There are only a few who are truly professional and are brought down by the rest. The pay should not be equal to road patrol for obvious reasons. To the hard-working, truly professional telecommunicators - "Great job and thank you!" Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 4:16 PM chris wrote ...what would the sheriff's office do if nobody showed up to work because they haven't found the time in over a year to update their contract. I hope this is retro, but in today day these people need this money now more than ever. I see the sheriff made a public fuss about his salary. An overlook of all salaries should of been done. Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 2:49 PM 911 wrote ...But then according to the OD article, all that they answer are 911 calls! Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 2:48 PM County Citizen wrote ...Too bad they don't get the real recognition that they deserve! Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 2:34 PM Unbelievable wrote ...It is hard for any of us to believe that Mr. Picente even knows we exist. The people that answer every single cellular 911 call in the entire Oneida County and every landline 911 phone call other than Utica and New Hartford are referred to as secretaries by our leaders and employer. Maybe he should have recognized us on secretary day instead. Was this an oversight? Do the County lawyers know? Thanks so much for your deep appreciation for all we do. It clearly shows by your decisive actions! Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 2:03 PM Understand wrote ...The "leader" you elected and were all so crazy about is just another Politician. Can't you all see what is right in front of you?! And you wonder why..LOL Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 1:31 PM Thanks for nothing! wrote ...Maybe if Picente thinks so much of their professionalism, compassion and expertise, he'd sit down with their union and finally give them the raise they so badly need and deserve now that they've been wihout a contract for over a year and three months. Flag for moderationTuesday, Apr 15 at 1:27 PM Concerned Oneida County Citizen wrote ...Why are the public safety telecommunicators' & Road Patrol Sheriff's Deputies working without a contract and didn't receive a raise?
